P E T A L  P O W E R,  2 0 1 7 

This series began as I was providing therapeutic art classes at a behavioral health facility.  I was challenged to come up with lessons for teen clients which didn't require lots of materials... mostly I needed to use everyday items, like paper, tape, glue and scissors.

I wanted my clients to experience creating something beautiful, yet fragile to mimic their stressful and complicated experiences. So I started researching and fell in love with paper flowers!

During that year, we created many different types of flowers. The process was calming, transformative, helps build self-esteem, and they loved it!

As I was getting ready for Curiosities, my solo exhibition at the South Arkansas Arts Center and looking for inspiration, once again, I was inspired by flowers. I experience flowers so differently now because of the work I have done with my clients.

These paintings celebrate the beauty and fragility of life and the importance of mental health.​
