Gigi is a fierce Puerto Rican mother of five with captivating curls and a vibrant personality. I was blown away when she came into my studio single-handedly lugging her mother's vintage Singer sewing machine. Shown is the last quilt her mother made.
Amidst laughs and shared stories, she opened up about her journey. She said, "I used to be known as a soccer mom, partner, pastry chef, but now I am seen as a caregiver." Her mother was diagnosed with Early-onset Alzheimer's at just 54. Displaying immense resilience, Gigi not only shouldered her new role but also championed Alzheimer's patient's rights. She has used this experience to help bring about change by advocating for The Younger-Onset Alzheimer's Disease Act, which passed in 2019. I am in awe of the strength she continues to show through so much adversity.
