ConnectedAcrylic, image transfer on canvas 24" x 24" 2015 Private Collection New Orleans, like all large cities, has a vibe or feeling that is truly distinctive. When visiting this city below sea level, I always find myself at one of their cemeteries. Their intricate above-ground graves with marble, concrete, or limestone monuments fascinate me. The mixture of sharp edges on the stone, the tapering of the rows, and the crosses rose skyward are often enhanced by the words of love, loss, and hope etched into the rock and metal. This partly abstracted painting explores the blend of emotions I experience while wandering in these amazing places. |
