There is just something about Mrs. Janet.
A little bit of strength, a whole lot of kindness, and just the right amount of tenacity that makes her a well-loved friend, and family matriarch. She radiates joy, her smile lights up a room, and even though she’s lost a son due to a hit-and-run accident, somehow, her stories are filled with hope.
In our interview session, she expressed that people often label her as passive and say she has a regal look about her. Janet finds that puzzling because she doesn't see herself like that most of the time. However, she shared that, “something shifts in me when I wear ceremonial African American clothing. Then, my spirit is filled with pride, boldness, and then, suddenly I feel regal."
